Clean Boats Clean Waters - 2024 Update
A game camera was set up for one day to observe activity at the shore cleaning station (CD3). It was not used. This is not surprising as any new behavior at the launch requires education and time. A piece of equipment was also broken, which may have affected usage. This was eventually repaired, thanks to Bill Gores. Polk County installed new signage stating the mandate requiring usage if the equipment is at a launch. Other lakes in the area have also reported slow usage.
The CBCW staff will continue to educate the public on the mandate to use the CD3.
I plan to pass on the reins of this wonderful 22 year program at Half Moon Lake., and to retire from the position of CBCW Chair. I've had my years of serving the CBCW program and it is time for some new energy, enthusiasm and ideas. I will gladly assist with the transition. We will also need new young people as staff for next season. Please let me know of any interest as training is required.
This past summer we had the youngest of our grandsons, Sawyer Hatton, Logan Dunning and Ella Cook monitoring 10 hours per day to talk to folks and remind all about ordinances and help clean weeds from trailers. All interactions have been good and well received.
